Abstract
As an approch to develop striped field mice(SFM) as a new laboratory animal. SFM captured from several localities of natural habitates have been made to rear and bred in a animal facility for 3 years. During domestication. We investigated basic
biological data such as feeding. Reproduction, and growth. Mating was attempted by localities and two families have been successfully maintained up to F7. There was no marked difference in litter size by sib-mating, the offsprings were 2.3g of
Lody
weight at birth and 17.2g at weaning. They started to consume diet at the age of 14~16 days. The complete conformation of body hair and opening eyes were occured at 6~7days after birth, respectively. Therefore, successful keeping SFM up to F7
generation
in an animal room gave a good prospect that contious breeding could domesticate SFM as a new laboratory anima. In addition, contious studies should be undertaken for evaluation of efficacy of SFM as a new laboratory animal in field of
microbiology,
genetic, and physiology.
